Welcome Ginger!

As you may know, our beloved hamster CK passed away in July. While it took a while, I finally decided that I was ready for a new little pet. So, last weekend, we adopted the beautiful Ginger.

We were lucky enough to get her from the Hopalong Hollow shelter. While they are a rabbit shelter, they have a separate hamster shelter right in Westchester Country. They have lots of loving, adorable hamsters — young and old, small and large. We chose Ginger because of her super-shiny, beautiful coat and her playful nature, but there were so many adorable pets to choose from, we had a really hard time.

Ginger is about 1 year old, and compared to CK, she is huge — about 200 grams, according to the scale at the vet. She is slowly adapting to her new home, and seems very happy with her new toys and her daily tofu / grape snacks.

We hope that if you are considering a new pet, you will consider adopting — whether it is a hamster or a puppy, there are lots of pets awaiting homes.
